Residential Services

The NEEDS Center offers residential services and supports for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as challenging and at-risk behavior. We currently operate nine group residences within the following seven communities: Billerica, Boxford, Haverhill, Methuen, Revere, Tewksbury, and Topsfield Massachusetts. These single-family homes are contracted with the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDS). Each group residence serves 2-5 adults, has a dedicated Program Coordinator (PC), and features 24-hours per day staffing. The focus of our residential services include:

  • Self-care skills
  • Activities of daily living
  • Language and communication skills
  • Social skills, social competence, and relationship-building
  • Vocational skills
  • Community-based instruction and support
  • Prevention-focused behavior support

Adults receiving residential services also participate in numerous community activities such as volunteer work opportunities, recreational pursuits, visits with families, and special events. Our Director of Residential Services supervises activities, staff training, program development, and related activities. Further administrative and clinical support is provided by the NEEDS Center President, Vice President of Clinical Services, and Chief Clinical Officer through regularly scheduled meetings devoted to operations, peer review, and outcome evaluation.

Reviews From Parents

“I want to thank everyone involved in the Special Olympics this past weekend, from organizing to actually working with my son on Saturday and Sunday. Thank you for your commitment to improving the lives of adults with disabilities. It was a wonderful time!”

“Once again, thank you (especially) as well as the entire NEEDS housestaff. It was extraordinarily difficult, but necessary, for us to find an alternative living arrangement for our son – and we feel fortunate to have been introduced to the NEEDS Center and comfortable with our choice to entrust you with his care. Our hopes and dreams for him are to be as independent as possible while enjoying a fulfilling work and personal life style — and we feel he is with an organization that will help with these goals while still providing a kind, caring and respectful home experience.”
